President Donald Trump on Sunday took to his Truth Social platform to claim that a highway in Morocco has been named after him.

Yet in the several hours since, officials in the country haven’t made a peep about such a road bearing the president’s name.

Trump shared a clip saying that a $1 billion, nearly 655-mile expressway linking the city of Tiznit to Dakhla, located in the Moroccan-occupied territory of Western Sahara, is now the “Donald J. Trump Highway.”

“What does a road really connect? Two places? Perhaps. But the roads that shape history connect something far greater,” begins a narrator in a dramatic voiceover attached to a clip featuring shots of roadways and desert landscape.

The narrator goes on to praise the “visionary leadership” of Mohammed VI, the king of Morocco, and the “historic courage” of Trump before declaring that there’s a “new era” in the “Moroccan Sahara.”

“For two and a half centuries, friendship, trust and dialogue have bound Morocco and the United States,” said the narrator, who underscored the long-held diplomatic relations between the countries.

“And today, the President Donald J. Trump Highway is its most concrete and lasting expression.”

Several Moroccan outlets reported on Trump’s claim without citing additional sources, and Moroccan officials, as of 2 p.m. ET Sunday, haven’t confirmed the renaming.

Trump wrote in a caption alongside the clip, “Such a Great Honor! I look forward to traveling the entire length of this Great Highway someday, hopefully soon!”

HuffPost has reached out to the White House and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in the United States, neither of which immediately responded.

Trump has been seemingly fixated on naming things after himself and otherwise slapping his likeness on currency and other items throughout his second term.

While portions of a number of U.S. roads have been renamed after Trump, this doesn’t appear to be the case in the rest of the world.

The post comes nearly a year after the president reaffirmed his support of Morocco’s claims to Western Sahara against those of the Algeria-backed liberation movement, Polisario Front.
