Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by Adpathway“Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough said Friday that Republican operatives told him the real reason President Donald Trump canceled a Kansas rally for GOP Sen. Roger Marshall on Saturday was because the race was considered lost.
Trump on Thursday insisted he wasn’t going because Marshall was “doing well” against Democratic challenger Adam Hamilton and there was no need. At the same time, he berated a Reuters reporter who asked about it, calling him “out of shape” and saying, “you look like hell.”
The MS NOW star claimed he had the lowdown on what was really going on before yet another reported change of plan by the administration.
“What he’s saying about canceling and why he canceled is a lie,” Scarborough said. “Yesterday afternoon, I got a call from Republican operatives who said, and I am quoting them, ‘This race has been gone for a week.’ That’s what Republicans are saying.”
He added, “Democrats were shocked that the president canceled at the last minute, but [Republicans] they did so because they feel like Roger Marshall has blown that race.”
Perhaps the president heard the doubts. A White House source familiar with the scheduling later told HuffPost that the campaign stop is back on, albeit on another day. Trump will attend rallies in both Kansas and Iowa on Sunday, according to the insider. “The rallies were rearranged for scheduling purposes to accommodate dozens of additional tele-rallies that were recently added to the President’s schedule,” the source said.
A few recent polls cited by The New York Times show Hamilton up by sizable margins, but a new CNN poll put him on top by just 4 points. CNN data analyst Harry Enten said the lead wasn’t statistically solid, but noted Hamilton’s polling advantage was still the biggest for a Kansas Democratic Senate candidate just days before the election in at least decades.
Scarborough also questioned the president’s mental state.
“People are asking him very simple basic questions, and he’s flying off in an absolute rage,” he said. “... You just kind of worry if he’s OK. I’m worried about him.”
