They were solving Rubik's cubes, drawing, playing catch, reading numbers off Uno cards. While completely blindfolded. And they were sometimes seeing not through where their eyes should be, but from the back of their head or the side of it. Ky Dickens tried on the same blindfold. Light came in when she squinted. She still could not read through it. In this conversation, Ky describes how mindsight, the phenomenon of children seeing without their eyes, entered her investigation. It started with a mom who noticed her four-year-old pointing to cards before they were revealed. It led to a teacher training in England. It led to finding schools in China, India, and America that have been teaching this for decades. And it led to a neuropsychiatrist who spent years running tests to debunk it and ended up so convinced it was real that she opened a school of her own. Then Ky tested her own children. Her son, who hates being fooled, put on a blindfold and within minutes was reading colours, then numbers, then cards. Her daughter, who she thought was too old at eleven, eventually did it too. Ky has no explanation. Neither do the scientists she has spoken to. But she keeps inviting people to try it with their own children rather than take her word for it. Because the younger the better.
