The White House initially denied the incident had even occurred, then blamed the media for falling for Iranian propaganda. U.S. military investigators, however, found that U.S. forces were likely responsible for the deadly bombing.

“It’s such a strange question to be asked,” Trump said, standing onstage with other Trump officials at the G7 summit in France, noting that the incident happened “a long time ago.” (It happened at the end of February.)

The country’s ambassador to the U.N. said that 150 students died in the strike on the girls’ school in southern Iran.

“Nobody did that on purpose,” Trump replied to the reporter.

“Mistakes are made,” he continued. “War is nasty.”

The president returned to the subject during the next question with a bizarre brag about how perceptive he is.

“Bad things happen in war. War is a nasty place,” Trump added. “I see it, maybe better than anybody has ever seen it.”
