JD Vance and Marco Rubio’s shoes aren’t just presidentially approved. They’re actually bought by the president, a detail that quickly became fodder for mockery online.

Donald Trump personally picked out four pairs of shoes each for his vice president and secretary of state, according to The New York Times’ live blog in which reporters Katie Rogers and Tyler Pager highlighted moments from their recent interview with the president.

As Rogers recounted, Trump “interacted with his aides and advisers during our time with him” and “referred to several of them as ‘kids.’”

“This included two of the most powerful figures in the federal government: Vice President JD Vance, 41, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is 54,” she wrote.

At one point, Vance and Rubio “showed off their shoes,” which they said were “purchased by the president.” “Vance lifted his leg in the air to show the president the pair he was wearing,” Rogers added.

Pager reported that Vance and Rubio said “they each received four pairs of shoes from the president.”

“They were both wearing black dress shoes with slightly different designs,” he noted. “One of the pairs they received were tuxedo shoes.”

Vance has previously spoken about Trump’s fixation on what his officials wear.

In December, the VP recalled Trump interrupting a meeting to criticize their “shitty shoes,” telling them he would buy them four pairs each, asking for their sizes, and then making a crude reference to penis size.

this really is just the dumbest timeline possible

Trump buys his team shoes. First they changed their suits and ties and now they're wearing approved footwear.

It is common in cults to dress alike. https://t.co/7LDGCUSctQ
