President Donald Trump couldn’t help but add a scoop of racism to Wednesday’s Oval Office press conference, which was meant to be about the auto industry.

A reporter asked Trump about recent comments by Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who said he’s proud to have the largest Somali community in the U.S. — a community Trump reportedly plans to target.

“I wouldn’t be proud to have the largest Somalian― look at their nation,” Trump snapped before going on a hateful tirade. “Look how bad their nation is. It’s not even a nation. It’s just people walking around killing each other. These Somalians have taken billions of dollars out of our country. They have destroyed Minnesota.”

Trump’s remarks later grew even more bizarre. “You have to have people come in that are going to love our country, cherish our country, they want to kiss our country goodnight,” he said, perplexingly. “They talk about our country, we want them to pray for our country. This is not the people living in Minnesota.”

Trump has previously referred to Haiti and other countries with large Black and brown populations as “shithole” countries. During a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Trump called Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) “garbage” while insulting her birthplace, Somalia.

“Somalia, which is barely a country, they have no anything, they just run around killing each other,” said Trump, adding: “And when I see somebody like Ilhan Omar who, I don’t know at all, but I always watch her, for years I’ve watched her complain about our Constitution.” (Actually, Trump has previously griped that Omar is too committed to upholding the Constitution.)

Trump launched into yet another xenophobic tirade against Somali immigrants during an Oval Office meeting on Wednesday.

Omar acknowledged Trump’s “obsession” with her in a Tuesday social media post.

“His obsession with me is creepy,” she wrote. “I hope he gets the help he desperately needs.”

Trump has dialed up his attacks on immigrants from what he has disparagingly called “Third World Countries” since the shooting of two National Guard members in D.C. last week. On Thursday, he seized on the identity of the suspected perpetrator, an Afghan national, to go after immigrants from different countries, including Somalia.

“Hundreds of thousands of refugees from Somalia are completely taking over the once great State of Minnesota,” Trump claimed in a Thursday Truth Social post. “Somalian gangs are roving the streets looking for ‘prey’ as our wonderful people stay locked in their apartments and houses hoping against hope that they will be left alone.”

According to multiple media reports, Immigration and Customs Enforcement is descending on Minneapolis and St. Paul in an operation focused on apprehending undocumented Somali immigrants in the region.

Local leaders have denounced the Trump administration’s agenda and warned that immigration agents are poised to racially profile people regardless of their immigration status.

“They’re not just targeting so-called undocumented immigrants. They target all Somalis. Somali citizens have been stopped on the street, asked to provide documentation,” Minneapolis City Council Member Jamal Osman told CNN in a Wednesday interview. “Let me just educate people. Ninety-five percent of the Somali residents in Minnesota are U.S. citizens. ...So there’s a small number that are looking for asylum that are awaiting their asylum court date. And those folks are also in danger.”
