On Monday, the Florida Republican gleefully shared the news on X, formerly Twitter, that he was “proud to introduce the Greenland Annexation and Statehood Act, a bill that allows the President to find the means necessary to bring Greenland into the Union.”
“Let me be clear, our adversaries are trying to establish a foothold in the Arctic, and we can’t let that happen,” Fine added, before echoing Trump’s talking point that acquiring the self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark “would prevent our adversaries from controlling the Arctic Region and secure our northern flank from Russia and China.”
Fine — who has drawn controversy in the past for inflammatory remarks — also shared a striking image depicting the president superimposed over a Trump-branded skyscraper towering above a Greenlandic village.
Critics were quick to respond, noting that both Greenland and Denmark have repeatedly rejected Trump’s overtures.
They also warned that any attempt to seize the self-governing island would amount to an attack on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, given Denmark’s membership in the alliance.

Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark, a founding member of NATO. One does not "annex" one's closest military allies. Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark and is protected by NATO Article 5.
