President Donald Trump tore into Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) on Monday morning with a new nickname after the president’s preferred candidate, Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.), defeated his GOP opponent Derek Dooley in Tuesday’s Republican runoff.

“So happy for highly respected Congressman Mike Collins. He will win his Senate Race in Georgia against a pathetic failed Dumocrat Senator, Os(jerk!)off, who is a joke in D.C.,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social. “Nobody even knows who he is!!! I’ll be doing Big TRUMP Rallies for Mike in Georgia! President DJT.”

The Trump-backed Collins is set to face off against Ossoff in November’s midterm election, but recent controversies may hamper his campaign.

Earlier this year, the nonpartisan Office of Congressional Conduct reported that Collins’ former chief of staff, Brandon Phillips, allegedly hired his romantic partner in 2023 and 2024 as a district intern for the representative, even though she “never worked a day in the district office,” according to one complaint submitted to the OCC.

Phillips was ultimately fired in May for a crude post on X that mocked the wife of an adviser for a pro-Dooley PAC after that adviser suggested Dooley stood a better chance against Ossoff.

In a statement following Collins’ win, Ossoff called “Trump’s handpicked candidate” a “notorious bigot, antisemite, and extremist currently under federal investigation for the illegal misuse of tax dollars.”

“Collins, who is only a congressman because his daddy was a congressman, voted to double health insurance premiums for more than a million Georgians, for the Iran War, and for the Trump tariffs,” Ossoff wrote.
