Critics are questioning President Donald Trump’s mental health after his latest bizarre rant in which he threatened Canada with new penalties, then delivered a wild warning about the country’s favorite sport.

Trump’s 296-word screed, which was posted on his Truth Social website on Monday, claimed that Canada had “treated the United States very unfairly” and threatened to keep a new bridge between the two countries closed unless Canada ― which paid for the bridge ― gave the United States “at least one half of this asset.”

Somewhere in the middle of that lengthy post, Trump took a detour to China. And hockey.

Trump railed against Canada and China for attempting to improve trade cooperation, starting with a deal last month to reduce tariffs on canola and electric vehicles.

Trump wrote:

″...Prime Minister Carney wants to make a deal with China — which will eat Canada alive. We’ll just get the leftovers! I don’t think so. The first thing China will do is terminate ALL Ice Hockey being played in Canada, and permanently eliminate The Stanley Cup.”

The Stanley Cup is the most prestigious trophy in the National Hockey League. Twenty-five of the NHL’s 32 teams are American, and no Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup in decades.

Trump made a similar claim about China forcing Canada to stop playing hockey last month that he still hasn’t explained.

The president’s critics are also finding this comment hard to comprehend ― even by Trump’s usual standards. They hit back on social media:

The man is hanging on by such a thin thread, the best he could come up with is “No hockey for you!” Our president is insane, and he’s destroying our alliances by the minute while the rest of the world looks on in bewilderment wondering what the heck is wrong with us. https://t.co/zG5Pr6aYnU

When will the relevant US authorities - the republicans in the US Congress - realize that Trump is seriously mentally ill and needs to be taken out of action?

The idea of China's ultimate goal being the destruction of The Stanley Cup is so, so funny to me. Was there a three week tactical assault on the Vezina Trophy? Did they annex the Ted Lindsey Award? Oh God, sir, a second plane just hit the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl! https://t.co/9BFBRhvCQE

Finally, China’s secret plan is revealed.

Trump’s latest toddler tantrum tirade claims that China is going to get rid of the Stanley Cup.

Speaking of unhinged takes, remember when the BC Conservatives said we should just “comply” with Trump’s unjustified demands? https://t.co/4RrYU75QVh

If pitched as SNL sketch this would be rejected as too insane even for Trump. China is going to terminate hockey in Canada? Will they also rewrite the national anthem: "Oh, China-da?"
Where did he come up w this one? Or maybe it's that damn staffer again? https://t.co/vE17ci7tvj
