“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert had some mock sympathy for Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) after an interview in which she indicated she’s not exactly popular with her colleagues.

“I’m not part of the powerful, I’m not part of the elite, I’m an island of one,” Mace said after being asked if there’s a cabal of D.C. elites. “I don’t get invited to parties. I don’t have any friends. I have a dog.”

Colbert shook his head.

“That is so sad. I don’t agree with Mace’s politics, but South Carolinians gotta stick together,” said Colbert, who is also from the state. “Nancy, next time I throw a party, I would like to invite your dog.”

Turns out he wasn’t feeling bad for Mace.

Only her pet.

“No one should have to spend that much time alone with Nancy Mace,” Colbert said.
