The Northern Lights May Be On View Across 20+ States Tonight

The Northern Lights may be visible across nearly two dozen states Monday night due to a geomagnetic storm pushing auroras further south, NOAA revealed.

NOAA said sightings were possible in: Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

Caitlin Kaiser, a meteorologist with Weather.com, said that parts of the Great Lakes, Midwest and Northeast will have the best shot of a viewing due to less cloud cover.

Trump Can't Stop Insulting Female Reporters

President Donald Trump, who’s been on a tear insulting female reporters in recent weeks, fired off more attacks on women in the media Monday.

While Trump’s previous comments focused on the reporters’ appearances, on Monday, he accused two women of being bad at their jobs during a roundtable at the White House.

Congress Eyes Restrictions On Pentagon Travel Funding In Push For Boat Strike Videos

Congress is leveraging a key pressure point to push the Pentagon to release video of its strikes on alleged drug boats.

As part of an annual defense bill that the House will vote on this week, lawmakers intend to "withhold a quarter of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's travel budget" until the Pentagon discloses unedited videos of the strikes it’s been conducting, according to Politico.

That provision is in the final draft of the defense bill.

On Monday, President Donald Trump backpedaled on a prior statement he made about sharing footage from a September strike.

Texas Democrat Marc Veasey Won't Seek Reelection: Report

Rep. Marc Veasey, a Democrat from Texas, won't seek reelection to the House and instead will run for a county judge position, according to a Punchbowl News reporter.

There was previously some speculation from local media that Veasey, whose district is expected to go Republican with Texas' redistricting, might run for Rep. Jasmine Crockett's seat following her announcement that she's running for Senate.

ICEBlock App Maker Sues Trump Administration

The maker of an iPhone app that flagged sightings of U.S. immigration agents sued the Trump administration for free speech violations on Monday, alleging that U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi used her “state power” to force Apple to remove the app.

Apple in October removed ICEBlock and other apps from its app store after Bondi said they put Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers at risk by enabling people to track ICE activity in their neighborhoods.

U.S. Military Features Surprising Detail In Post On Caribbean Missile Strikes Operation

In a social media post about the operation involving missile strikes that have killed scores of people in the Caribbean Sea, a U.S. military account featured no American flags ― but a large cross was plainly visible.

Many consider the Jerusalem Cross, as the ornate design is known, to be a simple profession of Christian faith. Some use it to specifically celebrate the Christian Crusades’ domination of Muslims nearly a millennia ago. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was not allowed to work security at the 2021 inauguration of President Joe Biden because he has a large Jerusalem Cross tattooed on his chest, as HuffPost previously reported.

Warren Blasts Paramount’s Hostile Warner Brothers Bid As ‘Five-Alarm Antitrust Fire’

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has dubbed Paramount Skydance’s attempted acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery a “five-alarm antitrust fire."

“A Paramount Skydance-Warner Bros. merger would be a five-alarm antitrust fire and exactly what our anti-monopoly laws are written to prevent,” Warren, a longtime critic of corporate monopolies, said in a press release on Monday.

Warren’s statement came as Paramount Skydance made a last-ditch effort to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery after Netflix won a bidding war for some of the company's assets. Warren had similarly called the Netflix deal an “anti-monopoly nightmare” when it was first announced.

“Paramount Skydance’s new hostile bid is backed by a who's who of Trump buddies, from Jared Kushner’s private equity firm to the Ellison family to money flowing from the Middle East,” she said. “[It raises] serious questions about influence-peddling, political favoritism, and national security risks.”

More Parents Are Refusing A Routine Shot Given To Newborns That Stops Them From Bleeding To Death

More parents are saying no to a shot of vitamin K that’s been nearly universally administered to U.S. newborns since 1961, according to a research letter published Monday in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The body uses vitamin K to help clot blood. For a variety of reasons, newborns don’t have much vitamin K, so giving them a dose shortly after birth helps ensure they don’t bleed to death.

But thanks to vaccine skepticism and misinformation on social media misinformation, parents are increasingly opting out.

From 2017 to 2024, the percentage of parents in the dataset who declined the vitamin almost doubled, from 2.92% to 5.18%, the researchers found.

Dr. Ivan Hand, director of neonatology at NYC Health and Hospitals Kings County, told NBC News he doesn’t think parents fully understand the risk of turning down the vitamin.

“These treatments have been so effective that people don’t understand the consequences. They have never seen babies with severe bleeding, so they think it doesn’t exist,” he said. “But you don’t see it because we are treating these kids.”

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Archdiocese will pay at least $230 million to hundreds of victims of clergy sexual abuse under a settlement approved Monday by a federal judge that follows years of negotiations.

Richard Trahant, an attorney representing victims in the case, and a spokesperson for the archdiocese both confirmed approval of the settlement to The Associated Press by U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Meredith Grabill.

Nancy Mace Torches Congress, Takes A Shot At Mike Johnson In NYT Editorial

If her latest New York Times editorial is any indication, it sure looks like Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) might follow Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-Ga.) path to the exit.

In the guest essay, titled “What’s the Point of Congress?”, Mace laments the legislative body which she says has become dominated by party leadership to the detriment of everyone else, and common-sense legislation Americans would like to see.

“Leaders of both parties have systematically silenced rank-and-file voices,” she writes, pointing to a proposed ban on congressional stock trading, term limits and voter ID as examples of issues kept off the House floor.

Mace accused House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) of doing the same, and tokenizing women to boot.

“Women will never be taken seriously until leadership decides to take us seriously, and I’m no longer holding my breath,” writes Mace. “Since 2013, the Republican conference chair position has gone to a woman. It’s the token slot, the designated leadership role for the top woman in the conference, while the real power lies in other offices.”

“We can do better,” she says in closing. “We can restore regular order, empower members to legislate and deliver on our promises. But that will require a fundamental shift, one that prioritizes courage over control. Let us vote. Let the people see. Let the chips fall. That’s democracy.”

Miss Jamaica Suffered Hemorrhage, Fracture, Other Injuries After Fall During Miss Universe Competition

Gabrielle Henry, who competed as Miss Jamaica in the Miss Universe 2025 competition, suffered from an intracranial hemorrhage with loss of consciousness, a fracture, facial lacerations and other significant injuries after falling through an opening in the stage during the preliminary competition on Nov. 19.

The Miss Universe organization said in a statement that Henry was admitted to intensive care in Thailand and remained in critical condition under "constant neurological monitoring" and still continues to require 24-hour supervision. She will soon return to Jamaica for continued treatment.

"From the time the incident took place, the Miss Universe Organization has stood beside Gabrielle and her family as if she were their own, assuming full and immediate responsibility without hesitation," the Miss Universe organization said in a statement. "The Organization has covered all hospital, medical, and rehabilitation expenses in Thailand, as well as the accommodation and living costs for Dr. Henry’s mother and sister, who have remained by her side throughout this difficult period. In addition, the Miss Universe Organization is funding the medically escorted repatriation flight arranged by the hospital and has committed to covering all future medical expenses arising from this incident."

Trump Says He Wants To 'Keep Europe, Europe'

In response to a reporter question about the European Union fining Elon Musk's X, formerly Twitter, Trump made a peculiar remark.

"Europe has to be very careful," Trump said. "They're doing a lot of things. We want to keep Europe, Europe. Europe is going in some bad directions. It's very bad, very bad for the people. We don't want Europe to change so much."

A similar remark appeared in a national security document his administration released last week that bemoaned migration to Europe and said it might make the continent a bad partner in NATO. That and other language in the document echoed messaging from white nationalist groups. Read more about it here.

Jimmy Kimmel Nabs Extension With ABC: Bloomberg

Late night host Jimmy Kimmel will remain with ABC for at least another year, according to Bloomberg’s Lucas Shaw, who reports the comedian will stick with the network until at least May 2027.

The news is a clear victory for Kimmel after the network bowed to pressure from the Trump administration in September and placed the show on “indefinite hiatus,” only to reverse course six days later after public outcry.

Trump Lashes Out At More Female Reporters

President Donald Trump, who's recently called female reporters "ugly" and "piggy," snapped at more women journalists during a roundtable Monday.

"You are the most obnoxious reporter in the whole place. Let me just tell you, you are an obnoxious, a terrible -- actually a terrible reporter, and it's always the same thing with you," he told one who asked whether he was committed to releasing the full video of the Sept. 2 strikes.

He lashed out at another who asked about Republicans retiring from Congress. Trump, angry that she didn't ask about Democrats retiring, lambasted her as "totally unprepared."

Indivisible Pressures Democrats To Vote Against Crypto Bill

The progressive group Indivisible wants Senate Democrats to vote against a cryptocurrency regulation bill this month.

The Republican-sponsored legislation, another policy payoff for the crypto industry's big spending on congressional campaigns, is up for a vote as soon as this week in the Senate Banking Committee. The legislation would reduce digital asset oversight by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

In an email to Democratic Senate offices, Indivisible says the new bill would create a loophole for companies to sell stocks as crypto tokens, allow banks to "speculate like crypto hedge funds" and increase risk of a taxpayer bailout.

And, of course, the bill would do nothing to stop the president from selling his own crypto products out of the White House.

"Without safeguards, Trump can continue to use crypto to enrich himself and accept unlimited, sometimes anonymous foreign donations," the email said.

Congress passed a crypto-friendly bill earlier this year thanks to support from Senate Democrats. Elizabeth Warren, the top Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee, is a leading foe of the industry.

Trump Reverses Course On Boat Strike Video, Claims He Never Said He Supported Its Release

Contradicting himself, President Donald Trump said Monday he doesn’t support the release of any footage from a Sept. 2 strike on an alleged drug boat that likely constitutes a war crime.

“I didn’t say that,” Trump retorted when asked by an ABC reporter about the video. “Whatever [Defense Secretary] Pete Hegseth wants to do is fine with me.”

Asked if he was fine with Hegseth releasing the full video, Trump snapped.

“You’re the most obnoxious reporter in the whole place. Let me just tell you, you are an obnoxious, a terrible — actually a terrible reporter.”

“I told you,” he continued angrily, “Whatever Pete Hegseth wants to do is ok with me.”

Trump last week said he had "no problem" releasing the video.

"I don't know what they have, but whatever they have we'll certainly release, no problem," he said of the footage.

Iowa Farmer Tells The President His Kid Thinks He’s Better Than Santa Claus

As part of the farming roundtable discussion, President Donald Trump heard from an Iowa farmer seated to his right, Cordt Holub, who thanked him for the $12 billion tariff-related bailout.

He also shared an "icebreaker" story about his 2-year-old son.

“The other day I was reading my little boy a story at night, putting him to bed, and he said, ‘Daddy, I don’t want Santa Claus to come to our house for Christmas. I want President Trump.’ And I think, Mr. Trump, I think you brought Christmas to farmers with this bridge payment, we’ll be able to farm another year, help us get by,” Holub said.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett Launches Senate Bid In Texas

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) launched a bid for the U.S. Senate in Texas, according to multiple reports, shaking up the Democratic primary to unseat Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) that already includes state Rep. James Talarico.

In another bombshell move just hours earlier on Monday, Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas) said he would be dropping out of the Senate race to run against Democratic Rep. Julie Johnson in a newly drawn House district in Texas. His decision to abandon his campaign, which he announced in July, came amid reports that Crockett was preparing to jump into the fray.

Trump Expected To Announce $12B Farmer Bailout This Afternoon After Soy Exports Collapse

President Donald Trump is participating in a roundtable this afternoon at which he’s expected to announce a $12 billion bailout for farmers. U.S. soybean exports to China have collapsed as a result of Trump’s tariffs.

Trump, who appeared to fall asleep repeatedly during a cabinet meeting last week, urged attendees at Monday’s meeting to “go faster” because last week’s was three hours long.

Controversial Biden Foreign Policy Aides Unite Behind Democratic Congressional Hopeful

As Democrats consider how to regain power, a wave of younger candidates wants to offer a new face for the party. Among them is Jake Levine, a candidate challenging Rep. Brad Sherman (D), a long-time representative from Southern California. But on Monday, Levine is getting a boost from a group of figures who crafted one of Democrats' most controversial policies in recent years: Biden-era support for Israel's punishing war in Gaza.

Several senior Biden foreign policy aides are helping organize a reception in support of Levine, according to an invitation seen by HuffPost. The group includes former national security adviser Jake Sullivan — who is co-headlining the event — his former deputy Jon Finer and Amos Hochstein, who led the failed effort to prevent Israel from extending its offensive into Lebanon. The reception is focused on climate policy, which Levine worked on during the Biden administration, and also features former EPA chief Carol Browner.

Critics of Biden's Gaza policy, who say it fueled disaster abroad and dissatisfaction that helped Donald Trump win the 2024 election, argue that Biden-era national security professionals should play little role in the Democratic Party's future, at least not without a reckoning with their choices. Sullivan and others have consistently rejected criticism of their decision-making and suggested they feel little remorse.
