A male aged 17 died after being struck directly by a lightning bolt while walking on a public street on Saturday in Jordan's Mafraq governorate.

The incident occurred in the King Abdullah Suburb area of Mafraq, a statement by the Public Security Directorate (PSD) said.

Response and Investigation

The statement added that ambulance teams immediately responded to the scene and transported the victim to King Talal Hospital.

Despite the medical efforts provided, he succumbed to his injuries.

The fatal incident took place amid the prevailing unstable weather conditions in Jordan.

Heavy rain is currently falling across several areas of the Jordanian capital, Amman, and other governorates accompanied by frequent thunder.

As the rainfall continues, authorities have issued increased warnings over the risk of flash floods and rising water levels.

Heavy rain has led to significant water accumulation, particularly in low-lying areas, underpasses, and beneath bridges.

Public security teams and emergency units at the Greater Amman Municipality in addition to other governorates urged residents to exercise extreme caution, stressing the importance of staying away from flood channels and avoiding attempts to cross water-covered roads.

Emergency crews are currently deployed across cities to respond to any incidents or reports.
