Earlier this month, investigative reporter Nick Shirley shed light on a troubling situation in Minnesota, where numerous purported Somali daycare centers have allegedly swindled millions from the federal government. Shirley’s investigation has caught the attention of federal authorities, prompting FBI Director Kash Patel to announce a surge of agents to the area to delve into these serious allegations of fraud.

In his video, Shirley confronted the owners of what appeared to be empty daycare facilities. Among them was one center that reportedly pulled in $4 million a year, yet lacked any visible children. The sheer scale of potential fraud is staggering; Shirley and his team uncovered over $110 million in dubious claims in just one day in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

This is not the first time issues related to the Somali community in Minnesota have raised eyebrows. In 2020, investigative group Project Veritas revealed a ballot harvesting operation linked to political figures associated with Rep. Ilhan Omar. The organization released undercover footage showing Omar’s campaign manager, Ali Isse Gainey, collaborating with Liban Mohamed, who boasted about collecting hundreds of absentee ballots. “Money is the king in everything,” Mohamed declared. His statements pointed to a troubling trend wherein financial incentives appear to be motivating electoral fraud.

Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe noted that these operations exploit vulnerable populations, emphasizing that “the sacred ballot box” has been transformed into a “commodities trading desk.” This sentiment was echoed by Omar Jamal, a political insider in the Somali community. He described the situation as an “open secret,” suggesting that there’s a conspiratorial atmosphere surrounding electoral practices within the community. Jamal raised concerns about the integrity of the election process, asserting, “I’m afraid it’s already too big to stop.”

This narrative illustrates a concerning connection between fraudulent daycare operations and improper electoral activities. Reports indicate that the Somali community in Minnesota has engaged not only in financial exploitation but also in potentially undermining the democratic process. Hennepin County Attorney Jeff Wojciechowski confirmed on a recorded line that the alleged ballot harvesting was, indeed, illegal and warranted investigation.

As these stories unfold, they paint a picture of significant corruption. The combination of fraudulent daycare centers siphoning taxpayer dollars and electoral malpractice raises alarms about accountability within local governance. The implications of these revelations could be profound, potentially shaking public trust and demanding rigorous scrutiny of both charitable and political activities in the community.
