- High-Level Political Forum 2026
The High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will be convened from Tuesday, 7 July, to Wednesday, 15 July 2026, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). This includes the three-day ministerial segment of the forum from Monday, 13 July, to Wednesday, 15 July 2026, as part of the High-level Segment of ECOSOC. The last day of the High-level Segment of ECOSOC will take place on 16 July.
The theme of the HLPF will be “Transformative, equitable, innovative and coordinated actions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for a sustainable future for all”. The 2026 HLPF with full appreciation for the integrated, indivisible and interlinked nature of the Sustainable Development Goals, will conduct in-depth reviews of: SDG 6. Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all; SDG 7. Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all; SDG 9. Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation; SDG 11. Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable; and SDG 17. Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.
36 countries will present their VNRs at the 2026 HLPF: Albania, Algeria, Bahrain, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Estonia, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Italy, Jamaica, Jordan, Kiribati, Liberia, Malawi, Marshall Islands, Mozambique, Norway, Republic of Moldova, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Somalia, Switzerland, Togo, Tonga, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, United Republic of Tanzania, and Uruguay.

During the United Nations General Assembly high-level week in September 2023, Heads of State and Government will gather at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to review the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

SDG Summit 2019
The SDG Summit 2019 resulted in the adoption of the Political Declaration, “Gearing up for a decade of action and delivery for sustainable development”. World leaders called for a decade of action to deliver the SDGs by 2030 and announced actions they are taking to advance the agenda. The General Assembly endorsed the Political Declaration on 15 October 2019. More than 100 acceleration actions have been announced.
2018
This year’s forum, under the theme “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies,” concluded with the adoption of a Ministerial Declaration. Forty-six countries presented their Voluntary National Reviews on their efforts to achieve the 2030 Agenda.
2017
The meeting of the high-level political forum on sustainable development in 2017 convened under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council, was held from Monday, 10 July, to Wednesday, 19 July 2017; including the three-day ministerial meeting of the forum from Monday, 17 July, to Wednesday, 19 July 2017.
2016
HLPF in 2016 was the first since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. The session included voluntary reviews of 22 countries and thematic reviews of progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, including cross-cutting issues, supported by reviews by the ECOSOC functional commissions and other inter-governmental bodies and forums.
2015
Many ideas also emerged on how the HLPF could organize its work after 2016, and deliver on its mandates to review SDGs progress; promote implementation of the post-2015 development agenda and conferences on SIDS and other special situation countries; address new and emerging issues and strengthen the science policy interface.
2014
The high-level political forum on sustainable development convened under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council met when the sustainable development goals and the options for a financing strategy for sustainable development were being formulated. The outcomes of those two processes are expected to form central elements of the post-2015 development agenda soon to be negotiated.
2013
The HLPF 2013 held its first meeting on Tuesday, 24 September 2013. The meeting was held under the auspices of the General Assembly and gathered Presidents, Prime Ministers, senior officials and representatives of stakeholders.
