Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayCalifornia Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Thursday compared President Donald Trump to the merciless leader from “The Hunger Games.”
Reacting to Trump’s announcement of a four-day “Patriot Games” athletic contest featuring one young man and one young woman from every state and territory, Newsom taunted the president on his own account and on his press team’s.
The Democrat, who’s in the conversation for a presidential run in 2028, used a meme from “The Office” to underline the similarities between Trump’s plan and the dystopian “Hunger Games” book and movie series, in which a boy and girl are chosen from every district to fight to the death until one is left standing.
“Corporate needs you to find the differences between this picture and this picture,” the captions reads with side by side photos of Trump and the film’s icy President Snow (played by Donald Sutherland).
“They’re the same picture,” Jenna Fischer’s Pam from “The Office” appears to answer.
Newsom doubled down on his own account, sharing a clip of Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen character in the movie volunteering for the contest so her chosen younger sister wouldn’t have to compete.
“May the odds be ever in your favor,” the governor wrote, echoing a quotation from the film.
Trump’s announcement had more than just Newsom thinking about the “Hunger Games.”
But the governor was glad to join in amid his relentless social media trolling of the president.
