Five people, including four teenagers, have appeared in court charged with murder in connection with a fatal collision at a petrol station.

Daniel Ambler, 23, died at the scene after suffering serious injuries at the Esso Asda Express service station in Seaham, County Durham, on Thursday.

Durham Constabulary launched a murder investigation and charged five people with murder and violent disorder.

They were remanded in custody when they appeared before Aycliffe Magistrates' Court on Monday.

All five appeared before Teesside Crown Court on Wednesday via a video link, including two 17-year-old boys, who cannot be named due to their age.

The two boys were remanded in custody to reappear on 17 February, along with Barry Anderson, 51, and Ashton Anderson, 19, from Easington Colliery, and Barry Logan Anderson, 18, from Peterlee.

Judge Francis Laird KC said he expected them to enter pleas during that hearing next month.

He also extended an order preventing the boys from being identified due to their age.

In a previous statement, Mr Ambler's family said his death "will leave a huge hole in our hearts forever" and paid tribute to a "kind-hearted soul".

"He had a great sense of humour, was popular among friends, and was able to bring laughter to any situation," the statement added.
