“I think the president was a vile, disgusting human being,” said Steele, a former chair of the Republican National Committee.

He later continued, “You embarrass and belittle all of us with your petty, personal degrading behavior.”

Steele took on the president after he declared that he was “glad” to learn that Mueller — a decorated Vietnam War veteran and longtime public servant who had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2021, per his family — was dead over the weekend.

Mueller served as the special counsel who investigated Russian interference in the 2016 election, a probe that sparked a sea of attacks from the president over the years.

In a post to X, Steele charged Trump with being a “hypocrite who reeks of weakness and insecurities with no moral core.”

His comments join a wave of critics, mostly Democrats, who have called out the president’s glee while making a nod to GOP outrage over those who celebrated the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

MAGA world, meanwhile, has attempted to defend Trump’s digital jump for joy.

Steele stressed on MS NOW that Mueller was a war hero who, “regardless of what you thought of him and his service to the country,” did not warrant such a response from the president.

“And so shame on you, Mr. President,” he said.

He argued that Trump’s behavior is a reflection of the country and Americans should be embarrassed that their president said he was glad to hear that someone was dead.

“Do you want your kids to learn that behavior?” Steele asked.

“To say that about their friends? To say that about leaders in their community? I don’t think so.”

He concluded, “So we need, as a country, to get off of this and stop letting Donald Trump drag us down to the lowest, most disgusting level possible. Because this weekend, we hit it.”
