Critics are calling out President Donald Trump for a middle-of-the-night post attacking Alex Pretti, the nurse shot and killed by federal agents during a confrontation in Minneapolis earlier this month.

New footage from 11 days before the shooting shows Pretti in a heated exchange with federal immigration officers, who were in a vehicle. Pretti spits at the vehicle and kicks out a taillight.

The federal forces take him to the ground, but he breaks free. The officers fire off tear gas and leave.

The president posted on Truth Social at 1:26 a.m. ET:

“Agitator and, perhaps, insurrectionist, Alex Pretti’s stock has gone way down with the just released video of him screaming and spitting in the face of a very calm and under control ICE Officer, and then crazily kicking in a new and very expensive government vehicle, so hard and violent, in fact, that the taillight broke off in pieces. It was quite a display of abuse and anger, for all to see, crazed and out of control. The ICE Officer was calm and cool, not an easy thing to be under those circumstances! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”

An attorney for Pretti’s family told The Associated Press that the earlier encounter doesn’t justify officers shooting and killing him.

“A week before Alex was gunned down in the street — despite posing no threat to anyone — he was violently assaulted by a group of (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents,” Steve Schleicher told the news agency. “Nothing that happened a full week before could possibly have justified Alex’s killing at the hands of ICE on Jan 24.”

Pretti was the second American citizen shot and killed by federal agents in Minneapolis this month after ICE officers gunned down Renee Good in her vehicle on Jan. 7.

The two killings triggered protests around the nation and calls for an “ICE Out” national strike on Jan. 30.

The Trump administration followed a similar playbook after each shooting, attacking the victims. Trump called Good “obviously, a professional agitator” and said she “behaved horribly,” and in the new post said Pretti’s “stock has gone way down.”

Critics on X called out Trump for his latest attack on a victim:

He should not have spit or kicked the tail light. For whatever reason, they chose not to detain him at that time. It still did not warrant a public execution days later, @realDonaldTrump, siiiiiir. Once again someone is dead because of things YOU set in motion. https://t.co/jzxDoonxNM

we watched the federal government execute someone live on camera and the president seems joyous to report that his, “stock has gone way down”. Can you imagine how the Pretti family feels? What about the veterans he treated at the hospital?

This man is sick and depraved. https://t.co/3YM2ibGNJu
