An illegal immigrant has been arrested for a violent attack on a woman jogging in a Texas park. Sergio Noe de Nova Duarte, just 17 years old, faces serious charges after allegedly using a hammer to assault the victim. This incident occurred in Plano, Texas, and raises urgent concerns about crime and immigration policies.

On Wednesday, law enforcement officials apprehended Nova Duarte, a Mexican citizen with a troubling criminal history. This arrest follows a prior encounter with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in 2024 for burglary and larceny. Despite his past, he was released back into the community by the Biden administration while awaiting an immigration hearing set for 2026. Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), remarked, “This criminal illegal alien should have never been loose in our communities.” Her comments highlight the growing frustration with current immigration policies that allow such individuals to remain in the U.S.

Initial reports state that Nova Duarte attacked the woman using not only the hammer but also duct tape, possibly indicating predetermined intentions to further harm her. Officer Andrae Smith of the Plano Police described the aftermath: “There was another witness who actually called in… indicated that there was a female laying on the ground with serious injuries to her and she was bleeding.” These details reveal the grave nature of the assault and the risks posed by individuals with a history of violence.

The quick action by the victim, who fought back against her attacker, played a crucial role in preventing what could have been a more devastating crime. Detective Alexandra Cole noted, “Given the nature of this incident… this could have gone so much worse.” Her words reflect not only the strength of the victim but also the potential consequences of a system that fails to keep dangerous individuals off the streets.

After his criminal proceedings in Collin County, Nova Duarte will face possible deportation. This potential outcome underscores ongoing challenges in dealing with illegal immigration and crime. Many are calling for stricter enforcement to prevent repeat offenders like Nova Duarte from endangering public safety.

The fact that an illegal immigrant with a significant criminal record could attack an innocent person in a park is deeply troubling. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the complexities and real-life implications of immigration policies and law enforcement’s role in protecting communities.
