In this week’s episode, we meet Brenna and Charlie in Western Australia, and this one really feels like a natural next chapter of tiny house living. After seven years in tiny homes, they’ve built a beautiful straw bale and cob earth home based on permaculture principles, but what struck me most is that they haven’t left the tiny house philosophy behind. They’ve carried it forward. The passive solar design, the simplicity, the deep connection to the land, it’s all still here. Just expanded. Their home sits within a permaculture community near Denmark, surrounded by forest, food gardens and neighbours who genuinely care about one another. The house feels generous. It was clearly designed not just for two people, but for friends, family and shared meals. The build itself is incredible. Straw bale insulation, clay from their own land, salvaged industrial windows that shaped the entire front of the house, and an attached greenhouse helping regulate temperature through the seasons. It’s warm, calm and beautifully comfortable inside, even on a hot summer’s day. They self-funded the project on an artist’s budget, salvaging and repurposing wherever they could, leaning on community skills instead of big industrial systems. There’s something deeply inspiring about seeing creativity applied not just to art, but to the way you build your life.
